Alec shrugged as he watched her make her statement. He felt a sudden stab, a ping of pain, of pain he thought he'd lost long ago. He looked out at the ocean, his hair immediately blown back from his face, his face stern, his cheekbones sharp as his jaw set tight. He looked down at his hands, and this is what she had made him. A monster.
"It's not something I enjoy at all, in the least."
He began to explain, as he turned toward her. His face serious, not even a hint of his usual goofiness was in sight nor in his mind.
"I'm a Vampire. That should be no surprise at all, and don't worry...I'm not in the mood for hurting anyone....else." He turned back around, staring at the ocean. He had sworn he had lost memories of her long ago, but suddenly her voice entered his mind. He looked to his left, no one. Slowly he looked to his right, no one. He walked forward a bit, he turned looking down the beach, his hair swept down across the left side of his face. He clenched his fist, trying to shake the thoughts of his past lover, he turned back to her. Acting as if he hadn't been sad at all, but really he felt like throwing something, or destroying something."That's my only secret....Not much of one. But it's all I have left, really. And honestly, if I was going to hurt you, it'd already have happened. I'm no one to fear, other than fear of stalking, which I do. Constantly. Merely for amusement." The last part he muttered as if she wasn't even there. His eyes looked up at the blue sky behind them, then his eyes flipped to his car. Then he turned around and 'teleported' to a rock. In reality he ran though, and sat down. Sometimes it was bad admitting who you were, for in this case, for his head was now in his hands, he couldn't claim to have a headache, a tooth ache, or a sore neck. He had nothing to say at all, except to lie that he hadn't lost all his human habits? He pondered it, realizing it may not work, he didn't feel like thinking much. He focused on getting the voice from his head, his name, called by it. From a memory, she was this beach to him. She claimed the mall as well, what next, the bloody neighborhood they used to live?
He pressed his palms against his temples and stood up. The voice faded, his eyes red with anger. But they slowly began to fade, her ghost, it was starting to look intentional. Intentional as in the sense of a possible haunt, or ghost, that constantly nagged at him anytime he talked to any female, at all. Whether it was an ugly one, or a damn attractive one. He narrowed his eyes after he opened them, and crossed his arms in front of his chest."So what's your story?" His voice was rougher, almost dangerously rougher than usual. He turned his head in her direction, his eyes were still a red, but were slowly fading to a orange color. His stance almost seemed to show his mood, his shoulder hunched, his left leg spread out to the side a bit, as he leaned on his right. His hair hung across his face, his jaw was tight. Annoyance seemed to vibrate from him, but it wasn't directed at her, more to another party, the voice he knew too well.

Alisha sat on a flat rock, taking off her sandals. She dipped her feet into the white sand and moved her feet around, watching the sand's movements. She put up her elbows on her knees and rested her head on them, looking out to the sea. She turned her head slightly, listening to what he had to say. She contemplated whether he was trying to fool her, but immediately whacked herself mentally for that thought. It was plain obvious, she was just blind.
A Vampire ... that was interesting. There weren't many of them in the kingdom because her father, for some reason, had nestled hatred against them and had tried to reduce the numbers. There was a huge uproar about it and the castle had been teeming with protests. He seemed so ancient right then, and she couldn't find a trace of that reckless driver she had seen earlier. She tilted her head, wondering why he was telling her about him.
She blinked as he moved suddenly, and her eyes raced around until they finally found him. She stood up and walked barefooted to where he was and hesitantly put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm not afraid," she started, "At least, not afraid of you. And even if you stalk me, I have pepper spray, so you won't go far."
Alisha smiled, and sat near him, looking away. Her story? She pondered over what she was going to say, whether she could. Shaking her head slightly, she turned towards him and told him her ... story.
"I guess my life could be made into a soap opera. You know, unwanted daughter, uncaring parents, the usual stuff. In a royal kind of way. I'm a shifter princess, or as the papers love to call me, the 'tabloid princess'. My parents wanted three sons, something about ancestral tradition nonsense, and I was supposed to be the third son. So you get the confusion.
"They treat me like a son, I'm just lucky they didn't give me a boy's name. I'm used to ignoring them, I try to instigate them in hopes that maybe they'll disown me someday. Oh I don't know, it sounds better living like a commoner rather than living a life that is not mine. It wouldn't have been so bad if Eleanor didn't come along. She's my younger sister, and everybody adores her, spoils her silly. No one cared about me, except for my two older brothers."
She looked away, wondering whether it had made any sense. Of course, there was still one more detail she needed to add.
"And then my oldest brother disappeared," she sighed, closing her eyes.

Alec immediately thought through his past kills, mostly were women. He didn't remember ever making a 'man' disappear. He decided to ask the question, at the same time, hoping to not make her feel worse. He set his hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently, trying to comfort her.
"If I may ask, how long ago, what did he look like, and how close was your relationship with him?" He looked back on all she said, interesting. A Rebel? A shifter? he raised up her arm with his hands, he poked her arm. It seemed normal, no shifter in sight. He cocked his head and stood up circling her, perfectly human looking. He had a quizzical look on his face as he stood there still listening and examining.

Images flashed behind her eyelids and Alisha opened her eyes, deciding she didn't want them closed after all.
"Seventy three days," she replied, shrugging, "Not that I'm counting or anything. "He's ... my best friend," Alisha smiled, her feet playing with the sand unconsciously. "His hair is what my friends call dirty blond, but I think sandy blond sounds better. He's tall, I have to look up to see his face and even I tiptoe, I can't touch his forehead. He likes plaid shirts, always wears them. I never liked them, but it looks good on him, so I let him wear them. Anyway, it brings out the blue in his eyes ..."
Alisha went on and on, becoming more animated as she started to talk about Elias. She had deliberately used present tense, she wasn't ready to believe that her brother was gone. It was already miserable for her to realise that he disappeared. She stopped suddenly as Alec poked her, gasping slightly. Her eyes followed him as he moved around her, wondering what in the world he was doing. She ended up laughing, and gave him a questioning glance.

Stopped and watched her, he shrugged giving a small grin and sat back down. Shifter? He still watched her, as if she was about to bust out into animal form. He smiled before talking, but he had listened to every word she had said. He was a very good listener.
"Sorry. I just find it interesting, you look nothing like an 'animal' at all. The shifters I usually meet, or did meet, would always have some sort of animal trait to them in their features, you confused me for a mortal. My mistake." His face looked care free again, and he hoped he had skipped the subject of her brother to keep her from feeling bad. He stood up and held his hand out to her."Feel any better from your once drunk state? and not to bring the subject up again, but I've lost someone close before. I understand. I'll do my best to never bring it up again."

Alisha wondered whether she should just shift to kill his doubts, but decided against it. "Do you want me to bark for you?" she chuckled, "I guess I'm just weird that way, I didn't know I was a shifter till I ... shifted. Sometimes life is just that way." She glanced at him and smiled slightly when she saw that he looked better, not in an unfathomable state like he was before.
She bit her lip hard, restraining herself from retorting back to what Alec said. "Lost" was not a term she identified with her brother. He was simply ... taking a break. He was going to come back and everything will be fine like it used to be. Perhaps. She shook her head, replying instead to his earlier comment.
"I think your rather carefree way of driving kicked whatever drunkenness I felt, Alec," Alisha joked, standing up as well. Some part of her conscious was nagging at her to be bothered about the fact that she was with a Vampire on a deserted beach, but she couldn't be bothered. She thought she heard her poor conscious wailing when she placed her hand in his and she laughed out loud, her rebel side winning over her goody two-shoes side.

Alec pulled his hand back and turned away for a second. He turned back around and tried again. He shook his head, the heat, the heart. He bit his lip, worst case scenario, small cave, just east. He shook his head, 'I can't do it....I can't DO IT' he yelled in his own mind. Automatically every possible escape played into mind, a kill then run, everything. He shut his eyes, then opened them.
"Sorry. I'm just, I have to control everything...I probably shouldn't have done this. And let's say if I snap, if I can't control my 'thirst' any longer. Get the hell out of here...Don't waste your time trying to tell me to stop..."
He turned back shutting his eyes and stopped his breathing. He turned back around, he took her hand and moved toward his car. He had to get out of here, somewhere far from his comfort zone. Back to town. It was the only option. He ignored his thirst, but it was still there, fear took over him. Fear of hurting her, dread almost. He let go of her hand as he got to the car, and moved to her side. He opened the door for her. Waiting.

Alisha looked at Alec curiously as his hand retreated from hers. He was confused, she didn't need to be empathic to understand that. She took a step back, just to give him more space, as he conflicted with himself. She hesitated, biting her lower lip, wondering whether she should do something.
"I'm sorry," she said rather pathetically, and started to add something else when Alec pulled her by the hand. She let him pull her like before, back in the Plaza, taken by surprise. She felt what he was feeling again, the direct contact magnifying Alec's emotions. She gasped as a gush of emotions poured in an unrelenting wave. She was going crazy, crazy with thirst, but fear overwhelmed it, fear overwhelmed her. All the feelings went as sudden as it came as he let go of her hand, almost ripping the door open. She clutched the door frame, trying to get rid of what she had just felt.
Her feet unconsciously took a step back and she muttered, more to herself than anything else, "I should go." She looked up at him, bewildered.

His face almost twisted into surprise but he managed to hold it back. Go? Go where? he wanted to ask. But, he wasn't going to stop her. He shut the car door and stood there.
"If you want to. Like I said, a little more difficult than you thought, hm?" He turned heading back onto the beach. Immediately flashbacks arose. He stopped suddenly. He tried to ignore it, as he moved out toward the water, he shut his eyes. Sometimes, he remembered being told, you have to let things go and forget. Suddenly anger filled him, he took a few steps back, he reached over hoisting up the boulder he had sat down on earlier. He steadied himself and chucked it out into the ocean. His arms almost too weak to hold it.
He sat down, he rested his head in his hands. He held his breathing, and tried to forget. He shut himself off from the world around him.

She watched him, her hand pressed against the car, and wondered. Wondered how a simple trip to the Plaza could turn out this way. Wondered how things that seemed simple ended up being too confusing, and wondered where she was going to go to. She came here to go away from her problems, and now she was going away again. Running, after a while, started to become tiring. It became a routine that you get trapped in, and she was trapped inside. Blinking in surprise as Alec threw a rock towards the ocean, she stopped wondering. Maybe it was time to stop running away, maybe there was a solution. Anyway, she reasoned to herself, where was she going to go barefooted? She walked back to where she was sitting earlier, still next to him. She sat down, her feet pushing the sandals.
"I'll stay," she spoke, "I'm not going anywhere."

Alec lifted his head up opening his eyes. He shook his head, he didn't even trust himself anymore.
"I'd rather you not. I'm not sure if I'll snap or not. I'll give you a ride back, if you still don't wanna leave, we can just hang in town. I'm too comfortable doing something wrong out here." He stood up and began to walk towards his car. Sometimes what seemed to work out, wouldn't. He'd be more than willing to get to know her, but he couldn't do that here. He turned around to make sure she was following, he stopped walking to watch her.

Alisha listened, not moving nor turning back. She felt him get up but she stayed, her toes drawing shapes in the sand. Occasionally, she read words that she had drawn unconsciously, and smiled slightly. Alec stopped, and she turned back to look, a curious expression flitting across her face. He was waiting for her -- and that surprised her, for some reason.
Shrugging lightly, Alisha stood up and picked up her sandals, walking towards him and the car. Was this a closure? she wondered, the end of them? It was strange, they barely knew each other, yet they were here, discussing about him losing control -- her death. She smiled at the thought of that, just because it sounded amusing. Looking at him, she asked, "So, where to now?"

Alec merely turned and continued walking. He looked the same way he had in the ballroom, almost distantly tormented by unspoken words or invisible people. He looked around, then rushed to her side to open the door for her.
"Probably town. Somewhere you can be free."
He calmly held the door. His face like a statue. Perfectly aligned, and emotionless eve as he spoke the words. Only his eyes showed expression, but he hoped it was not able to be read. If it was, it was probably anger and sadness combined. He looked away from her, toward the left at the curve of the highway. The wind blowing his hair toward the right side of his face, covering his face from her view.

His words reached her, and she looked up at him, searching his face which was obscured by his hair. Somehow, she felt pain, physical pain, deep inside her as he spoke to him. He was letting her go as well, like everybody she knew did. Her parents have never really bothered about her, and there had been no one. No one to cheer for her when she took her first steps, no one who told her well done when she was awarded first in school, no one who lent her a hand when she started to stray away. No one ... except one. Yet what is the use of that one when he was gone?
"Free ... ?"
She spoke the word blankly, as though it was in a foreign tongue. Perhaps it was. She had meant to repeat him, but it came out more as a question than a statement. A question to clarify the meaning, the truth of the word. Somehow, that word didn't sound familiar to her. Alisha being free was ... she scoffed and laughed, a mirthless laugh that was iron hard. Alisha back to her boring pathetic life sounded rather routine to her, but that was life for you. She slipped into the car, staring straight out of the window, her gaze not focusing.

Alec shut the door and moved around to his side. He slipped in, shutting his door he started the car up. He pressed the accelerator, the engine roared to life. He set it in reverse, then zoomed out, flipped it to drive and was off. He spoke of nothing, he opened the small dashboard in front of her. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes, taking one before shoving the rest in his back pocket, he shut the dashboard. He used the car's lighter to light it, he shut the dashboard and took a puff. He aimed the exhale out the window, as to not bug her senses. Although he could never tell it made any effect in calming him down, he at least seemed more human. He turned right at an intersection, skipping the road they had come from. They were back in the town, but the beach was still on their right. He pulled into a store parking lot. He took out his sun glasses and got out of the car, his cigarette still in his left hand. He looked to the left, his face seemed peaceful for once.
"Your stop. Free to go."
He put the cigarette back in his mouth. The stale taste no longer bothering him. He drew another long puff. He looked back over his shoulder at her. It almost seemed as if he expected her to do or say something. He looked back, people walking from the ramp on the beach gazed at him, it was funny to him how people stared. He exhaled, smoke billowing out. He got back in, shutting the car door behind him. He looked at her, taking the cigarette from his mouth and putting it in the ashtray.
"I'm not saying I want you to go. I just want what's best, what is safer...I don't want to hurt you. And if I do, I'd probably never trust myself again." He looked honest, he looked the way he felt. Sadness, but seriousness all at once. He looked ahead, he had a feeling he'd hurt her before by being distant. But he wasn't sure he could tell her he'd like to get to know her, possibly like her. Without it being too weird. First day, first meet. Bad idea. He gave a small wave as a man walked past, who gave a wave to start with. He looked at her, awaiting any response at all.

Alisha stared out of the window, feeling utterly empty. The colours flashed past her one by one, presenting themselves to her but she ignored them, the colours which were threatening to distract her from her thoughts. She thought about many things, her life, her friends, her, and the guy beside her. Opposties attract, her mother always said. She could find many different replies to that right then. There was nothing opposite about her and Alec, maybe the fact that he was a Vampire while she was a shifter. No, that was another same thing. They were both different, outcast, pariah, alone. Of course, she was always surrounded by people, but either they wanted her money, or it was her status. At the end of the day, she was still alone. With nobody who really bothered. Because she wasn't worth it.
She had told herself that many times that she wasn't worthless. But it didn't help when everyone said otherwise. Contradicting her opinions of herself, as though they knew her. Maybe they did. The thoughts tormented her brain, and a side of her head started throbbing, a steady rhythm that to her surprise, she found relaxing. At least it was constant.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud
She smiled slightly, feeling herself slip off into the world of dreams. She didn't realise that the car stopped, and Alec's words sounded two continents away. She mumbled something, she herself wasn't sure what, and she closed her eyes. Her head started sliding down the car seat, her hair falling onto her face.

Alec pulled out another cigarette. He watched her as she fell asleep. He sat there for a minute, wondering what to do. He felt guilty. He was going to tell her when she woke up, the whole truth. He didn't want her hurt because he cared.
He stepped out of the car after turning it on, letting the air conditioner run on low. The car door make a small ringing noise as he walked across the gravel, he continued inhaling and exhaling with the cigarette. He crossed the street moving into a gas station. He bought a newspaper and walked back to the car. He slipped inside, rolling down his window, he removed his shades and folded the newspaper as he began to read it.
As he read it, his mind asked him questions. "Why are you NOT taking her back?" and other questions. He would, he promised he would, but he had to explain he cared first. If he didn't chicken out, which was a definite possibility. He pressed the tip of his cigarette into the ashtray before pulling out another one, he hadn't noticed two were already in there. He held the cig with his fingers as he turned the page. He turned off the air conditioner, trying not to make it too cold.

The alcohol she consumed earlier must have been getting to her, or it's a dream. Alisha was convinced it was a dream, but she couldn't be sure. She didn't remember anything about falling asleep in a middle of the paddy field. A dream then. She walked around, trying to get herself to wake up, but failing miserably. She wasn't sure whether she wanted herself to wake up. Waking up meant facing problems. Waking up meant she had to go away from Alec. She was just going to sleep it out.
It was a strange dream -- trying to find her way around tall stalks. Some taller than her. The sun shone with everything she had and Alisha was almost soaked with sweat. She was finding for something, she didn't know what, but she continued finding. The stalks itched and grabbed her feet and she started walking faster, just to get away from the feeling.
Then she saw him.
It was a dream, she reminded herself, it was just a dream. It wasn't true. Apparently, her legs didn't agree. She ran after Elias, who was almost just a shadow. A little more than a shadow. She ran and ran, and the stalks started to cut her feet. She tried to call out, but no voice came out.
In her seat, still fast asleep, Alisha thrashed around. She felt panic choking her slowly, and all she wanted to do was somebody to wake her up. Despite the air condition, sweat laced her face, and Alisha breathed in a shallow manner.

Alec turned to look at her, she was now thrashing. He wasn't sure whether to wake her up, he pulled the cig from his mouth and put it in the ashtray. He exhaled, he leaned over and gently shook her.
"Alisha? Wake up."
He frowned as he waited for her to either wake up, or some kind of response. He hoped for the best, but he had a feeling it would require more than just one shake. He let go as her warmth ran through his hands. He fought every hunger, everything. He feared hurting her, and it was a fact. He never would hurt her. He cocked his head, as he shifted in his seat to face her. His back leaning on the locked door.

Alisha felt Alec's hands on her, as he shook her, and tried to grab on to the feel of his hands, trying to wake up. Somehow, waking up was harder than falling asleep, yet she didn't want to wake up at the same time. Elias was there, getting nearer and nearer, but her legs were feeling numb, numb with pain, numb with tiredness. She needed to meet him, ask him why he left, and she just continued running.
"Elias," she muttered in her sleep, trying to reach out to him.
He didn't turn around, he seemed to think it was perfectly fine to let his sister run after him. "Stupid git," she muttered to herself, comically enought. Then finally, he turned around, and suddenly, her eyes flew open, the light searing her eyes. She shuddered, gasping, and realised that her legs were really numb in reality. She blinked a few times, adjusting her view when she found herself staring into Alec's eyes. She blinked in surprise as the sweat trickled down her face and she whispered to him, "Bad dream."
